Lotus BEV

Oh James, how I love Sean According to a report in the FT; Lotus is planning to manufacture an electric car, the concept version of the new model is likely to appear at this March's Geneva Motor Show. The car is likely to have a range-extending small gasoline engine in conjunction with a lithium-ion powered electric battery pack. The chief executive of Lotus, Mike Kimberly, said, "Don't be surprised to see an electric Lotus shortly. We are working on the technologies that will go behind it." Kimberly added that the model would be, "one of the showcases for the world of what you can do with electric vehicle technology".

Lotus is investing £60 million in developing new passenger cars with alternative powertrain technology, including electric powertrains and biofuels.

Could this lend weight to the (my) theory that the Model S is a re-badged Lotus Evora built under licence in the US?

To me, this would seem to indicate that Lotus wants to strike out on their own in EV's, and leave Tesla to their own devices.
